Here at Henderson Emergency Management, we are getting calls from concerned citizens on how they can assist our neighbors to the south and east. We are currently compiling a list of volunteer groups who are looking for people to assist and support agencies who are taking donations to distribute to those who need them. Please check back often for any updates to the below list.
The disaster within the disaster is all the “stuff” that gets sent to a damaged area from well-intentioned people who just want to help out. If you are wanting to assist in this widespread disaster that has ravaged several states, the best option is to donate money to a reputable group or agency. Those groups will send the donated monies to the affected areas where groups can purchase what they need the most.
If you are wanting to volunteer your time, there are organizations who are needing volunteers. You should pick an organization, make contact and arrange your visit with them. Just showing up will likely cause you frustration right from the start as there are so many evacuations in progress that local officials are actually limiting or restricting access.
